Bone marrow peptides
Biologically active food supplement A-20 contains a complex of low molecular weight peptides with a molecular weight of up to 5,000 Da isolated from the bone marrow tissue of young animals.
Experimental studies have shown that peptides have a tissue-specific effect on the cells of the tissues from which they are isolated. Bone marrow peptides A-20 regulate metabolic processes in the cells of the hematopoietic system, increase their reserve capacity, and have a beneficial effect on the ability of the body to adapt in extreme conditions. They have antioxidant properties, which regulate the processes of peroxidation in the cells of the hematopoietic system. This suggests the effectiveness of A-20 to restore the functions of the hematopoietic system in case of their disorders of various origins, primarily in case of anemia.
Anemia is not an independent disease, but it occurs as a syndrome in a number of diseases that can either be associated with a primary lesion of the blood system, or which do not depend on it. In this regard, anemia is a very remarkable condition that requires targeted treatment, since people with anemia experience a quick decrease in their quality of life.
A decrease in the concentration of hemoglobin in the blood often occurs with a simultaneous decrease in the number of red blood cells and a change in their qualitative composition. Any form of anemia leads to a decrease in the respiratory function of the blood and the development of oxygen starvation of tissues, which is most often expressed by such symptoms as pale skin, fatigue, weakness, headaches, dizziness, palpitations, shortness of breath and others. In this case, it is very important to preserve the ability of the bone marrow to regenerate, which is shown by an increase in the number of reticulocytes (young erythrocytes) in the peripheral blood (the norm is 0.5% -2%). Maintaining the regenerative activity of the bone marrow contributes to leveling the symptoms of anemia and improving the general condition of the patient.
Currently, vitamins containing B12 and iron are mainly used to treat anemia. In addition, with a low level of hemoglobin, red blood cell transfusions can be applied. In general, treatment tactics depend on the type of anemia and the severity of the patient's condition.
The clinical study to prove the effectiveness of the bone marrow peptides was carried out at the Medical Center of the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology from April to November 2011.
The clinical study involved 26 women aged between 35 – 56, with signs of mild to moderate iron deficiency anemia due to malnutrition.
Patients complained about weakness, fatigue, general malaise, decreased concentration, shortness of breath when engaged in minimal physical activity, palpitations, headache, tinnitus, sleep disturbance, and loss of appetite.
An objective examination revealed pallor of the skin of visible mucous and nail beds, and the appearance of a functional systolic murmur was noted in most patients.
During laboratory examination, patients showed a decrease in the hemoglobin content in the blood to the level of 70-90 g/l, which indicates the presence of anemia of mild or moderate severity.
All patients were divided into 2 groups. Patients in the control group (11 people) received conventional therapy, including the use of iron supplements, vitamin B12, and a specific diet. Patients of the main group (15 people) in addition to conventional therapy received bone marrow peptides A-20 (10 mg, 2 times a day with meals for 30 days.).
The dynamic of the patients' complaints were assessed, and a general clinical blood test was performed.
It was established that the use of A-20 bone marrow peptides in patients with mild and moderate anemia contributed to the improvement of the general condition. It was manifested through a decrease in weakness, fatigue, general malaise, shortness of breath in case of slight physical activity, palpitations, headache, noise in ears, sleep disturbances, appetite disorders, increased concentration and performance (Table 1). It is important to note that the improvement in the condition of patients in the main group occurred in a shorter time than in the control group, which used only conventional therapy: if patients in the control group improved on average after 35.6 ± 2.7 days, then patients of the main group - after 26.2±1.6 days. Thus, the time for improvement in the condition of patients with anemia with the use of the A-20 peptide complex in addition to conventional therapy were reduced by 24.4%.

Through the clinical study, a significant improvement in the levels of erythrocytes and hemoglobin in the blood was noted, after the use of bone marrow peptides. Moreover, those indicators were more pronounced than in patients in the control group (Table 2).
The noted changes in the indicators in the peripheral blood of patients who were taking bone marrow peptides correlate with clinical indicators and demonstrate the restoration of an adequate response of the hematopoietic system of the body in response to malnutrition.
Analysis of these data allows us to conclude that the A-20 peptide complex has a normalizing effect on cellular metabolism in bone marrow tissues, and helps to restore the functions of the hematopoietic system in women with alimentary anemia.
Thus, the results obtained indicate the therapeutic efficacy of the bone marrow peptide complex and the feasibility of its use in the complex treatment of patients of different ages with anemia of various origins.
When using A-20, no side effects, complications or drug dependence were detected.
Peptide complex A-20 can be used for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes in the form of a biologically active food supplement in combination with any means of symptomatic and pathogenetic therapy used to treat anemia of various origins.
The A-20 peptide complex is a complex of peptides derived from the bone marrow of young animals. The isolated peptides have a selective effect on bone marrow cells, normalize their metabolism and regulate the functions of the hematopoietic system.
During the clinical study, the effectiveness of bone marrow peptides in the complex treatment of patients with anemia of various origins, under the influence of extreme environmental factors, malnutrition, and the use of diets aimed at reducing body weight, was established.
Biologically active food supplement A-20 has a normalizing effect on the functional activity of bone marrow cells.
The drug is well tolerated when administered orally, has no side effects and can be used as a therapeutic and prophylactic biologically active food supplement.
Peptide complex A-20 is recommended for use to patients with anemia of various origins (take orally during meals, 10-20 mg 2 times a day for 30 days.).
